Session Description

How can financial institutions accelerate climate action while ensuring that workers, communities, and vulnerable groups are not left behind?
This highly interactive role-playing simulation immerses participants in the real-world challenges of delivering a just transition. Working in teams, participants take on the roles of finance, businesses, worker representatives, community leaders, and policymakers. Together, they must respond to a series of evolving economic, social, and environmental scenarios.
Throughout the game, teams make decisions on financing, risk management, stakeholder engagement, workforce impacts, and community investment, as new events emerge participants must collaborate, negotiate, and adapt their strategies. The challenge is not simply to achieve environmental goals, but to do so in a way that is equitable, inclusive, and economically sustainable.
The session concludes with a facilitated debrief that links participant choices to emerging just transition approaches in sustainable finance.
Participants will leave with practical insights into how financial actors can manage transition risks, identify opportunities, engage stakeholders effectively, and contribute to a resilient low-carbon economy that works for people and planet alike.
