Session Description
Climate mitigation policies, plans and actions can generate significant health impacts across sectors such as energy, transport, industry, buildings and land use. While health outcomes are increasingly recognized as an important dimension of climate action, they are not always systematically incorporated into climate planning, investment decisions and impact assessment practice. As countries accelerate implementation of mitigation measures, there is growing interest in understanding how health impacts can be more effectively assessed and used to strengthen decision-making and implementation.
This solution room will explore how health impact assessment can better support the design, financing and implementation of climate mitigation actions. Drawing on practical experiences and emerging practice, participants will examine approaches for identifying, quantifying and valuing health impacts; selecting appropriate indicators; addressing methodological and data constraints; and integrating health evidence into impact assessment processes. The session will also consider how health impact evidence can be communicated and applied to inform policy choices, investment priorities and implementation strategies.
The discussion aims to generate practical insights on indicators, analytical approaches, institutional arrangements and data needs that can strengthen the role of health impact assessment in climate action. It will highlight opportunities to improve collaboration across health, environment, finance and planning institutions, and through better demonstration of the wider societal benefits of climate mitigation measures, accelerate implementation of those measures.
