Session Description
With the growing complexity and comprehensiveness of eco-environmental issues, traditional environmental impact assessment (EIA) tools have become insufficient for integrated assessment and preventive management of regional environmental impacts. EIA system has evolved over more than 40 years to address increasingly complex environmental challenges. It has progressed through project EIA, planning EIA, strategic environmental assessment (SEA), and policy EIA, and a systematic approach of regional environmental assessment (REA) by the World Bank, UNEP and others. China further established an ecological and environmental zoning based regulation (EZR) system with an objective-oriented governance based on Integrated Ecological & Environmental Units (IEEUs) and the list for environmental permits (LEPs).
This session will welcome academics, administrators and practitioners in the fields of regional environmental assessment and zoning management from international organizations, developed and developing countries, and the consulting industry to share and discuss the following topics: (1) cutting edge practices and achievements in regional environmental assessment and zoning regulation; (2) the latest frontier technologies in regional environmental assessment and zoning management, including the application of AI; (3) how zoning policies can support national and local sustainable development through more scientific decision making processes; and (4) how the experience and policy approaches of regional environmental assessment and zoning management can be extended to other countries around the world.
We encourage case sharing and discussions from participants all over the world.
Session Summary
This session will focus on the latest EIA advances and policy implications in regional environmental assessment and zoning management, and will explore the future trends of IA through practices and global sharing.
Additional Information
This session has already received positive responses from scientists and policy makers from several universities, research institutes and administrative agencies. Participants will gain access to the latest perspectives and case studies in the EIA field and will also have the opportunity to look ahead at future trends.
