Session Description
At IAIA ’26 Quebec City, 38 delegates participated in five working Research/Outreach (R/O) panels on How IA and SEA practitioners might best support the Global Commons Alliance (GCA) partners and related institutions. The Panels were: 1. Finance, Risk and Insurance; 2. Earth Governance; 3. Monitoring, Analytics and AI; 4. Communication, Professional Development and Youth Engagement; and 5. Futures Thinking. They were established to conduct brief institutional reviews, divide up tasks and carry out technical deliberations to advance collaboration with selected planetary recovery institutions. At Christchurch, Fisher and Adams will summarize a consolidated report of the R/O Panels’ findings and recommendations. Each of the Panels will then provide a ten minute Report Out, including progress, constraints, and proposed tasks.
A 10 minute delegate critique of each of the Panel’s workplans for 2028 and beyond will follow. Expected outcomes include:
• prepare a new 2027-28 report on the R/O Panels’ findings, recommendations, and actions for discussion by the IAIA Board and membership.
• apply systems-thinking and interdisciplinary problem-solving to assess planetary recovery alternatives and potential mitigation/regeneration solutions
• develop targeted communication with decision-makers; financial, reinsurance, risk assessment and actuarial networks; doughnut economics and Sustainable Transitions (ST) practitioners; Earth and Human Systems specialists; journalists and media; Higher Education professionals, students and youth; and the wider public.
The remaining 10 minutes of the session will be used to summarize session recommendations and next steps.
Session Summary
The five 'Fit for Future' Panels from IAIA '26 will be reconvened to review progress in supporting planetary recovery institutions and proposed solutions. Delegate's will then be asked to recommend next steps in applying IA and systems-thinking methodologies to assessment of mitigation/regeneration plan alternatives.

This workshop complements the Fit for Future Initiative and related IAIA discussions on Global Commons Alliance partner initiatives. 3F is proposing a stream called “Systems and strategic thinking for planetary recovery.” To maximize cross-participation and avoid duplication, please schedule it so it does not overlap with other sessions proposed for this stream.
