Session Description
As IA faces increasingly complex environmental and social considerations, one critical question remains: How do we ensure that practitioners have the competencies needed to meet these challenges? Around the world, professional associations, regulators, and certification bodies have invested effort in developing competency frameworks, professional recognition systems, and certification schemes. Some of these initiatives have transformed professional practice and strengthened stakeholder confidence. Others have struggled with implementation, governance, engagement or long-term sustainability. Yet all offer valuable lessons for organizations seeking to strengthen the systems that support effective IA. This session will move beyond theory to focus on real-world lessons from organizations that have designed and implemented certification and professional recognition systems. By reflecting on both successes and setbacks, participants will explore how governance structures, implementation strategies, and institutional partnerships can help shape the future of the profession. The session will begin with presentations in which speakers share their initiatives, successes, failures, surprises, and key takeaways. Participants will then engage in a dynamic "Lessons Learned " format designed to maximize interaction. Each speaker will respond to a common set of practical questions: What are the two strategies that contributed most to your success? What are the two biggest pitfalls others should avoid? What would you do differently if you were starting again today? What advice would you give to organizations considering a certification or professional recognition program?
