Session Description
This session will host panel discussions that highlight the paradigm shift of Indigenous involvement in major projects, specific to the Environmental Assessments the projects undergo. The standard for Indigenous participation in assessment processes has been rising at a global scale. Gone are the days where it's acceptable that an Indigenous community would receive a referral, with 30 days to review if a major project should proceed or not. Indigenous communities, and their affiliated businesses, are now being integrated into the lifecycle of major projects, from early planning stages, all the way through into construction and operations. This session will review examples of major projects that have meaningfully integrated Indigenous perspectives into their project planning, assessment processes, and into the operations of their project.
Session Summary
This session will host panel discussions that highlight the paradigm shift of Indigenous involvement in major projects, specific to the Environmental Assessments the projects undergo. It is no longer acceptable for Indigenous communities to take a backseat in these decisions.
