Abstract

Panel discussion - The Mushkegowuk Tribal Council's department of lands and resources working with communities n conservation and impact assessment, aiming to expand community level education on IA. Creating grass roots project committees that include Arts and cultural perspectives, as well as focusing on other barriers, such as language. Initiatives that focus on historical events that are informing the strategies for indigenous communities in our territories moving into the future. What this aims to provide are the first steps toward specific community IA design process, a strategy to participate and even perform IA for projects by the community itself, learning from historical projects that have gone forward with little to no understanding or participation from the people who are most impacted. Co-Governance as a rule, not a platitude, and FIPC at the forefront for remote communities wanting to encourage responsible and sustainable development.
