Summary Statement

View an innovative platform with the LEAP approach incorporating biodiversity data, site IA data and BESRAs that provides a better overview and insight for management of biodiversity risk.

Abstract

There is a potential for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services risk assessments (BESRAs) and action plans (BESAPs) to sit in isolation at a site level. We have developed a platform with the TNFD-LEAP approach that incorporates global biodiversity data, site IA data and BESRAs. It is an effective tool to visually view the Locate phase of the TNFD approach. The spatial data capability of the platform enables the input of information such as site boundaries and Protected Areas. The Evaluate phase enables a site to view potential risks and pathways, utilising such data as that from ENCORE. The information within the Locate and Evaluate phases leads to improved risk assessments. It is the Analyse phase that provides the most innovative approach, providing a review of impacts, dependencies, risk and opportunities of biodiversity and ecosystem services from 21 sites incorporating actual site data (such as Area of Influence, biodiversity surveys, priority ecosystem services and BESRAs & BESAPs). This enables great insight and learnings by reviewing risks and management actions at a site level, operational type level, regional level and corporate level. This leads to better risk mitigation and management, and a continual improvement loop. It also provides evidence of the application of the Mitigation Hierarchy. The second half of the presentation will be a demonstration of the capability of the platform.
